[For a long time, there is muttering and shuffling, and no real discernible speech. Just a view from the ground of tree tops, green and bright in the summer weather, from where a New Feather's journal lays open.]

[If one listens closely, they may here complaints about Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan and fallen angels.]

[A moment later, a curious face swims into view of a boy with pale skin, blue eyes behind thick-rimmed rectangular glasses, and a shock of wildly messy black hair. His expression shifts quickly from curious to annoyed.]

Oh, that explains a lot.

[A disgruntled sigh.]

The script is blank!! Am I writing my own City of Angels, wherein Nicolas Cage has tiny useless blue wings??

[He sits back and falls mostly out of the journal's view.]

This movie is going to suck. Just sayin'.

That'd make a lot more sense than what's actually going on. Er, you got some time? [This'll be a long explanation.]

Well, I'm sitting half-naked in a forest with wings on my back, and no shoes.

There are a whole lot of those really dumb sticker things that keep getting stuck in my feet. So I don't think I'm gonna be trying to get anywhere for a little while.

Which is a really long way of saying; yeah, I think I have some time.

Ouch. Huh, maybe I should...[He's not one for nature hikes, but he really thinks he should be trying to help.] Do you want help? I could bring some clothes and a blanket or something? I don't know. [He'd just feel really bad leaving him there.]

[He shrugs a little, and then shoots a dirty look over his shoulder at his wings. They sort of sting when he moves wrong or they move. Which is really going to take some getting used to.]

If you want, I guess? I mean that's pretty charitable for a stranger. Most people would be sort of be thinking about worst-case scenarios that could happen with meeting a stranger in the forest at this point, not offering a blanket and clothes.

[He does have a good point. He can admit that much.] Usually I'd be agreeing? But things are a little different here. So if there is a stranger in the forest, I should probably do just that. I mean, it's not like you wake up very often with wings on your back either.

All right, valid. The wings are kind of the weirdest extenuating circumstance of my life.

...and I've definitely had some weird extenuating circumstances.

Here's a weird question for you; are we dead?

No. That'd make a lot more sense. Which is really saying something. So yeah, clothes and a blanket.

Hey, do you know if you're close to a village, though? See any lights or anything?

No kidding. All things considered not much other than me being dead makes sense, but wings and a talking book are fine, too, I guess.

Uhh, I don't see lights but some guy with a horn on his head mentioned I should move away from the mountains to get to the village. The mountains are kind of way the hell over that way. [He makes a vague gesture.]

A talking book is cool to have. I don't know about the wings. They're kind of a pain.

[A guy with a horn on his head? Geesh. This is going to be one complicated rescue mission from the sound of it.] Mountains are a no, definitely. These journals should have a compass or something. But you said you had stuff stuck in your feet, right? Can you even walk comfortably?

Literally. [He glowers over his shoulder at them and they twitch a little-- he flinches. Shit hurts.]

Ehh, I'll be fine. I'm just kind of a pansy that stays inside most of the time so the barefoot forest thing is a pain in the neck. ...or foot, as it were. [The world around him shifts as he stands up again with his journal. He looks one way, then the next, and holds up the journal in the direction of the second.] That looks vaguely more village-ish than the mountains, so I guess I'm going that way.

Oh yeah, they're kind of ouch in the beginning.

[He takes notice and yeah, he has no idea where exactly he'd be coming from.] I'll see if I can find a flashlight, but I'll meet you. And hey, I'm not too woodsy either. It was really lucky I woke up in the buildings.

I hope they cut it the hell out. It's obnoxious.

Oh, hey that's cool. You definitely don't have to.

They do. Sometimes I forget they're there until I lay on my back or something.

It's no problem. [He's already leaving his place anyway.] I'd feel kind of bad just leaving out here all alone, y'know? I had people helping me, so I want to help out.

Bluh. Not looking forward to that part, either, but I guess if they get pretty easy to ignore...

...oh. Well thanks, that's pretty nice of you.

[Pause, and he frowns.]

Oh-- I'm John, by the way.

No problem. You can call me Gordo. Nice to meet you, sort of.

[And he's out, making a quick stop to the store to find himself a flashlight. Not going into the woods because then he'd just get lost and be no help at all. Let's play it smart, man.]

Gordo? Funny name. Sounds kinda familiar.

[Thoughtful face. But he shrugs, and keeps kind of awkwardly simpering along through the woods because really. Stickers and twigs and crap, and no shoes? This is lame.]

Really? I've never met any other Gordos. [Probably because it's not a real first name and not his, but details!

He's out near the edge of the woods and he'll just wait. He's got clothes, a blanket, and that flashlight.]

I might just be thinking of Gordon.

[This might be a good time for me to ask if you're cool with fourth-walling.]

That is my last name. Gordo's a nickname.

[I should really put a permissions post up, but no only because he's being played as some normal 14 year old.]

Huh. Gordo from Gordon, okay. I bet there's an interesting story behind that one.
